The Helpdesk Agent is the point of contact for all users who need technical support.
Michela: Hi Marta, you arrived in the company in December 2020 starting your journey as an intern and after two years, thanks to your commitment and determination, you were confirmed with a permanent contract. You are very young but you have become very precious to all of us. Would you like to briefly explain what your work consists of?
Marta: My job as an IT Helpdesk is to ensure that all company technology systems and devices run smoothly. I take care of solving technical problems, assisting colleagues in case of difficulties with software or hardware, and keeping the IT infrastructure always efficient. The department is led by Roberto Bugatti and is essential to ensure business continuity and allow everyone to work at their best, so I am always very busy and the fact that I feel useful is a powerful motivational factor.
Michela: In addition to all this, you became a mother of a beautiful little girl just over 1 year ago. What emotions did you feel in the first days of your return to work after maternity leave?
Marta: It was a mix of emotions: at first I was a bit nervous, because I was afraid of not being able to reconcile everything. But it was also exciting to reunite with colleagues and return to be part of corporate life. Once I got back into the rhythm, I felt more confident and serene.
Michela: Reconciling family life and work is a challenge for many, both women and men. What strategies have you adopted to reconcile your role as a mother with your professional one?
Marta: I have learned to organize myself even better than before. I prioritized myself, making the most of every moment of the day productively. At home I can count on the support of my family, and this allows me to focus on my work. In addition, the support received from the company and from my manager Roberto was invaluable in dealing with this transition.
Michela: You talked about support, here, what business tools or initiatives were useful to you in this phase?
Marta: Yes that’s right, Yes, that’s right, I felt truly supported in every way. When I returned in February 2024 after 6 months of parental leave, I found a company that had changed organizationally. I had not had the opportunity to meet Marco Achilli, our new CEO, who in the meantime had introduced flexible hours and a policy aimed at the well-being of employees in the company. Once the breastfeeding period was over, which provides for the reduction of the hours to 6 hours for the entire first year of the children’s lives, the company granted me part-time work at 6 hours to be able to continue to be close to my daughter.
Michela: You can clearly perceive the grit and your desire to give your best.
Marta: Exactly, I feel very lucky! Knowing that my company is experiencing a strong recovery and is committed to ensuring the well-being of employees makes me even more excited and confident!
Michela: What advice would you give to a colleague who is about to face this experience?
Marta: I would say not to be afraid and to ask for help when needed. It is important to communicate with your manager and colleagues to feel supported and work in a serene atmosphere. Becoming a mother is beautiful, but work is an important part of life and I want to pass on to my daughter the value of a balanced commitment, where passion, dedication and well-being always go hand in hand.
