Having arrived in Italy at the age of twenty, Facundo transformed a major life change into an opportunity for professional growth, becoming today a valuable resource for our Automation business unit.
“At Imesa, I found a company that welcomed and valued me, allowing me to build my future.”
Michela: Facundo, can you tell us how your journey began before arriving in Imesa?
Facundo: I’m Argentine by birth, and after graduating as an electronics technician, I decided to move to Europe in search of new opportunities. I began my experience in Spain, where I was able to experience a different environment, but I knew my journey would continue in Italy. About three months after arriving here, I responded to an ad on Indeed through an agency, and the opportunity that would lead me to Imesa arose.
Leaving Argentina was not an easy choice: the economic situation was complicated, and leaving my family was emotionally difficult. At the same time, I felt that leaving was necessary to build something stable and give substance to my professional plans. When I arrived in Italy, I was 20 years old, full of curiosity but also fear of the unknown.
Michela: Once you arrived, what was your first role at Imesa?
Facundo: I started in Secondary Medium Voltage as a wireman in the workshop, a role I held for the first three months. Initially, it was a period of great learning: every day represented a new challenge and an opportunity to put my theoretical knowledge into practice. I would truly like to thank all my colleagues in that department, because they guided me step by step, sharing experiences, advice, and valuable techniques. Thanks to them, I learned not only the job, but also the importance of teamwork and collaboration. From the very first days, they made me feel part of the team, and that feeling of welcome and support was essential for me to face the initial challenges with confidence.
Michela: How did you get into the Automation department and how did your experience evolve there?
Facundo: The transition to the Automation department was possible thanks to Gianmarco Marzocchi, the R&D Manager, who recommended me for the newly opened position, at a time when the office was going through a phase of reorganization and of course Fulvio Majorana, head of the entire BU, who welcomed me.. It was an important opportunity for me: a new environment, new responsibilities and the possibility of dealing with more complex projects.
I joined together with Lorenzo Minelli, another young engineer, and right from the start we built an excellent working relationship based on collaboration and constant comparison. This has made it easier to face the first challenges and grow quickly.
In the department, I found the space to really put my technical training into practice and to develop my logical skills, especially in project programming and analysis. Each new task was an opportunity to learn something new and to understand how to find the best solution, working on projects that require attention, precision and creativity. The experience in Automation has allowed me not only to grow professionally, but also to gain confidence in myself and my abilities.
Michela: What are the main challenges of your role?
Facundo: The biggest challenge of my job is that there is no set standard: every project is different and requires logical and creative thinking to find the most effective solution. When we provide service, for example, the first step is to take a project completed by others, delve into it, and understand the initial design choices, before identifying the most appropriate solution. This process requires a great deal of concentration, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
When I’m on site, I handle troubleshooting: quickly identifying the problem and proposing concrete solutions is essential, especially in emergency situations. At the office, however, I mainly oversee project revamping, trying to optimize and update existing systems to improve their efficiency and reliability.
Michela: Being very young, what does this job convey to you emotionally?
Facundo: The strongest feeling I have is undoubtedly adrenaline. When an emergency or a sudden problem arrives, I feel that rush that pushes you to react quickly: think, analyze the situation and find the most effective solution. It’s an intense feeling, one that tests you and at the same time motivates you to give your all.
Every time I overcome a challenge, I feel immense satisfaction. This job is helping me grow not only as a technician, but also as a person, because I’ve learned to manage pressure, make quick decisions, and trust my abilities.
Ultimately, that initial tension turns into motivation and confidence: knowing I can tackle any challenge and contribute concretely to the success of projects is a truly rewarding feeling.
Michela: In addition to your enthusiasm, your great sense of gratitude clearly emerges: who has played an important role in your journey?
Facundo: Definitely my father, who is an electronic engineer and passed on to me the passion for electronics from an early age: I programmed robots and microcontrollers as a boy. And then the teachers who believed in me. I also owe a lot to Professor Peretti, who brought me closer to the world of PLCs and then came in visit to Imesa. And of course all the colleagues I work with today: I get along very well with them, and that’s a blessing.
Michela: What does working at Imesa mean to you?
Facundo: For me it is a great pride. Imesa has important customers, such as the Italian Navy, and when you work on projects like this you understand that what you do has a real impact. Knowing that thanks to your intervention something works is a difficult feeling to explain: it is a mixture of responsibility, satisfaction and enthusiasm.
Michela: Facundo, thank you for sharing your story with us. It is a beautiful example of courage, passion and determination: a path that demonstrates how commitment and curiosity can transform every challenge into an opportunity. We wish you all the best!
